Manual Migration From Blogger to Wordpress

Image
I managed to do that today with one of my Blogger.com blogs that was hosted in my server using the FTP publishing option in Blogger. I don't know if I can call that a "migration", what I did was: 1st emulating Blogger URLs in Wordpress permalink structure, & second, copying / pasting all the posts from Blogger to WP. 1. Permalinks: Blogger posts URLs look like this: blogtitle.com/2008/02/post-title.html To have similar URLs in WP you need to change the permalink structure to this custom one: /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html 2. Migrating Posts: If you have many posts, this step would be a real pain: Start a new post in your new WP blog, then in your Blogger dashboard list all your blog posts, start from the first one (or the last), copy its URL for example: blogtitle.com/2008/02/post-title.html , get only the part between the date & .html , i.e. in our example: post-title and put it in the "Post Slug" field for the post you are start

Comparing Judaism, Christianity & Islam

Image
I've read before some articles comparing Christianity & Islam, but rarely read about Judaism, today I just wanted to know some basic things about this last which led me to Convert.org & their article summarizing the differences between Judaism & Christianity, in fact there are more common points between Judaism & Islam than Judaism & Christianity. The article is divided on three parts: The first one titled God , compares "The Trinity" concept in Christianity (the claim that God is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) with the monotheism in Judaism, which is also found in Islam. Christianity also comes with a concept of Evil that has an ability to create equal to God's, which is rejected by both Jews & Muslims: "God is the creator of all that we like and all that we don't." Second part titled The Jewish view of Jesus , Jesus is Son of God & part of the Trinity (God incarnate & in th

Selling Graphics at iStockphoto - Steps to Respect

Image
Today I finally applied to sell vectors at iStock Photo, first you have to read their guide for vectors submissions, then you take a simple quiz, after that you are presented to an agreement & invited to submit a JPEG of a government issued ID piece of yours; the last step is to submit three samples of your work, they recommend that you send them diverse styles to give them an idea of your potential. As I see it (I might be wrong), all the steps above (except reading the guide) should be done in a row or else you should start from the beginning, so before I start the first step I had to have the last one already done (i.e., my 3 sample vectors ready). Let's talk a bit about vector requirements: in the guide you read before starting your application, you'll be told that with each vector you submit you need to send a JPEG preview sized to a minimum of 1900 x 2800 pixels, as I understood that, it's 1900 px (minimum) width x 2800 px (minimum) height. In fact no! Read

Pop-Tarts or the Toaster Pastry

Image
I neither knew about Pop Tarts nor about the "Toaster Pastry" , in fact I don't even have a toaster at home :| Today I was browsing some funny animals pictures & came across the pic on the right with the kitty in the box & was curious about that thing so - as often I do - I asked Wiki ... So the Pop-Tarts are flat rectangular toaster pastries & "Toaster Pastries" are a type of pastry designed to be "safely heated in a toaster" . The origin of Pop-Tarts were the "Country Squares" created in 1963 & adapted from a process of enclosing dog food by the company Post Cereals , but then since Post revealed the idea before it was ready, the principal competitor Kellogg developed quickly its own version & released it under the name of Pop-Tarts before Post product, it then had much more success then the "Country Squares" probably because of the name of this last, the term "Country" was associated then w

How to Align an Image using CSS

Image
Although CSS allows you to do a lot of amazing things with a web page layout, I still think it's limited, in fact sometimes when I get stuck with some coding dilemma I imagine a new CSS code that can solve it, often I find a regular way to solve it though, sometimes the solution involves breaking some W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) guidelines. I had this problem previously & I faced it again today, to align an image .With text it's easy: you use the text-align property & choose one of the values left , right or center , but that doesn't work for images, the solution was rather simple: to wrap the image with <p> tags and use the text-align to align the <p> & inside it the image. It worked like a charm! Only I had some important margin below the image because of the p tag values in my style sheet, so I had to add a margin-buttom property to the p tag with he value I wanted. <p style='text-align: center; margin-bottom: 10px;'

The House of Representatives & the Senate Form the U.S. Congress

Image
This maybe basic information for the U.S. citizen & other more aware of politics news than me, but I have to admit that I never looked closely into this, I always heard about the Congress, the Senate & Senators a bit about the House of Representatives, but only today I managed to link all that rather correctly .. So to summarize, there's, The Congress: the bicameral legislature of the federal U.S. government, which is composed of two houses or chambers: The House of Representatives: a popular chamber in which all states are represented proportional to their population (with at least one Representative); each representative serves for a two-year term. The house is presided by the "Speaker" who's is elected by the members. The Senate: Also called the upper house (the lower house being the House of Representatives), each state is represented in it by two Senators for a total membership of 100. Senators serve six-year terms & there are elections

How to Make a Scatter Brush in Adobe Illustrator

Image
Today as I was creating some stuff on AI (Adobe Illustrator, a rather new software for me) I needed some dust effect & for that had to create a custom brush & use it with a path created with the pen tool. You can create the brush using any vectorized shape(s) you create, you just select your shape (or shapes using the selection tool + the Shift key), & then drag the selection to the Brushes palette, a box would pop-up, choose "New Scatter Brush" ; another box will pop-up to let you customize settings, just click OK for now, don't change anything. Now test your brush, create a shape using the Pen tool or Pencil tool & apply the brush on it, wouldn't be perfect, let's fix it now: Keep the shape selected, double click on the icon of your brush in the Brushes palette, the box to customize the brush will pop-up again, check the "Preview" box to see how the brush looks when you change settings & start changing them, when fini

"Janitou" Film is Named: Aa Gale Lag Jaa!

Image
This morning when I installed Wordpress, had no idea about the first topic & didn't imagine I'd talk about an Indian movie, but here I am, I guess I might write about even stranger topics later .. So, the most known Bollywood film in Algeria I always knew as "Janitou" has in fact "Aa Gale Lag Jaa" as title which seems to mean "Come and Embrace me" ; the movie was out in 1973 imagine? I was kid when I watched it in the 80s & only remember a disabled kid named "Janitou" (dunno his real name), there's also a song in the movie everybody knows as "Janitou" (most popular Hindi song here) its real name is "Tera Mujh Se Hain Pehle Ka Nata Koi" , everybody likes & sings "Janitou" even the younger who never watched the movie, I found the video on Youtube, hope you enjoy it :D
